New Delhi boasts a unique Film Fest

New Delhi is having a rare treat for the lovers of literature, films and arts. Its 2nd Sadho Poetry Film Fest, being organized on 26th and 27th Dec. 2009 at Alliance Francaise de Delhi, 72 Lodhi Estate, from 5pm to 8pm.

The Sadho Poetry Film Fest, the first of its kind in Asia, is a unique biennial festival that showcases the finest Poetry & Poetic Films from all over the world. The 1st Sadho PoetryFilm Festival 2007-08
featured 84 films from 23 countries. The 2nd Sadho Poetry Film Fest will present 45 films from 15 countries. A rare archival poetry films made two decades ago by poets like Allen Ginsberg and experimental filmmakers are additional attraction. These films have been sourced by Sadho with painstaking labour of love. There is also a special sections featuring the best films from the collections of some other organizations that have been working in this genre. These are Zebra from Germany, Video Bardo from Argentina and Rattapallax form the US. Poetry films made by Indian filmmakers under the Sadho Poetry Films Project will also be screened. There will also be a competitive section for student films.

The Poetry Films at the festival feature the work of some very important poets from all ages and many
languages. The poetry ranges from the work of the Sufis & Saint Poets to contemporary writing and even kids' poetry. The poets include the ancient, medieval and modern like the Sufis Jalaluddin Rumi & Bulle Shah, Kashmiri saint poets Lad Ded & Shaikh Nuruddin Alam, Haiku masters like Basho, Kyoshi, and Shiki, Modern poets like Sylvia Plathh and some beautiful poetry by children as well.

The concept of poetry cinema is undoubtedly a paradigm shift. An event like this is a must watch for all those who love the medium, to have a fresh viewpoint, to explore the new extension of cinema.
